2029 Canada Summer Games Application

 

Softball Nova Scotia is looking to select a female Assistant Coach for the 2029 Canada Summer Games program. The 2029 Games will be held in Moncton and the St John regions of New Brunswick.

 

Candidates who are not Competition Development Certified, may apply. If selected will have to take the required Competition Development Coach certification courses. Prior coaching experience is an asset, however not a requirement.

 

The ideal candidate will have played at a competitive level and bring position specific skills in a primary position as well as secondary positional skill knowledge. Strong interpersonal communication skills and an ability to work independently and as part of a coaching staff is important.

 

Coaching requires irregular hours of availability and commitment. The successful candidate must be available evenings and weekends with some weekday availability required as well as the ability to travel out of province and potentially out of country.

General Description

 

The Assistant coach will assist the Head Coach and Team Manager in preparation for the 2029 Summer Games. Under the direct supervision of the Head Coach the primary role of this position is:

 

Specific Responsibilities:

 

1. Participate in Canada Games program ID camps, selections camps and

 

competitive tours

 

2. Teach assigned technical and mechanics/skills in designated area in

 

collaboration with Head Coach input.

 

3. Track and record identified statistics on a game-by-game basis and have

 

available as required for head coach

 

 

4. Provide input to head coach on daily training activities

 

5. Serve as on-field coach or bench coach

 

6. Provide written assessment as required ranking athletes based on strengths and

 

weaknesses.

 

7. Scout provincial, regional events and assist with Talent Identification

 

camp/clinics/tournaments as directed

 

8. Participate in professional development activities as determined by Head Coach

 

9. Participate in end of season debrief meeting

 

10.Other duties as assigned

Assistant Coaches will be evaluated by the Head Coach in the areas of:

 

Active participation in staff meetings and athlete sessions

 

Ability to communicate effectively with athletes and staff and achieve predetermined outcomes

 

Timeliness of report writing skills in assigned area of expertise

 

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

 

Technical Expertise and Game Sense

 

Overall performance by the team/athletes in specifically assigned areas
